BACK COVER BLURB
Sometimes, it is planned. Sometimes, it is unplanned. Sometimes it devastates a friendship. Sometimes it evolves it into something even better. Sometimes it's just a harmless, fun break with a neutral effect on the friendship.
Six pairs of lifelong friends end up having it. Each pair under different circumstances. With each pair facing a very different aftermath.
So, at the end of the day, is sex between friends a good idea? Well, read this novella and judge for yourselves.
Having written all those long, epic, masterpiecious (is this even a word?) novels, this time, I decided to go for something lighter, fluffier.
The title is self explanatory. Some people might grumble that it's too straightforward. Then again, the whole book, from the beginning to the end, talks about exactly that thing. There is no point in hiding it in the title with innuendos.
And now, some backstory. I have always wondered what it is like when two best friends have sex (with each other, obviously). How does that affect the dynamics of their relationship?Obviously, not all those cases lead to a happily ever after love story (I think that the 'No Strings Attached' and 'Friends with Benefits' movies [2011] chickened out in that regard); a 'sex between besties' situation can end in countless different ways.
So, after fantasizing about various ways things could go in such a situation, I was like, 'Why not merge all those fantasies into a book?'
In other words, although I call my book a novella (26.000 words long), technically, it is a collection of short stories. These stories are intercut, hence the name of the series (In Parallel). If you have watched movies like The Morning After (2015) and Conception (2011), you have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about.
And now, an overview of the pairs of childhood, lifelong friends that, one way or the other, end up having sex in this book. (MILD SPOILERS ALERT)
-Dora and John:
17 years old. 12th graders and classmates. Dora is more outgoing,
confident and sexually experienced than John. So, when she sees him
somewhat freaking out over the prospect of graduating from high school a
virgin, she goes like, 'I can take your virginity if it burdens you
that much. No big deal. It will be just sex between friends.'
-Ruby and Cooper: 15 years old. 10th graders and classmates. Recently, they realized that they might have feelings for each other, but neither of them wants to take that chance and explore that possibility. I mean, what if things don't go well and they break up? Their friendship will have been ruined for no reason!
However,
when Cooper finds out that his family is going to move, when the two
teenagers have only one last night together, will they be able to keep
their hands off each other?
-Megan and Rachel:
As you must have guessed from the names, both of them are women. Two
young women who are best friends and colleagues. One night, they meet at
Rachel's house to have some fun practicing gymnastics in bikinis.
However, when they see each other so lightly dressed, they start to
realize that the LGBT world is not such a bad place to live in...
-Elena and Mark: 40 something careerists. Elena is undergoing some sort of mid life crisis. 'When will I finally meet the right one? Someone worthy of starting a family with? And what if I don't? And what if I never have children?'
Mark
jokes, implying that she can always have a child with him and raise it
by herself, until she has found the 'perfect man'. To his surprise,
Elena likes the idea!
-Elle and Paul:
Elderly people. Paul is early 80s, Elle is late 70s. They have been
friends since high school and always had feelings for each other, though
circumstances never let them admit it. Until, one day, Paul decides
it's never too late!
-Sophie and Luke: 30 something bohemians. Luke is gay. One day, Sophie's brother decides to temporarily store in his sister's fridge some 'spiked' cookies. An unsuspecting Luke and Sophie find them and eat them. If you want to know what happens next, buy my book (wink, wink!)
